National Concessionary Bus Passes
We accept these on ALL of our routes (except on routes 68, Z2 or special services which clearly state that concessionary passes are not accepted). These passes are identifiable by a ‘red rose’ symbol on the front of them – if they do not have this then you are advised to check with us before travelling
When boarding the bus, concessionary passes must be placed onto the ticket machine card reader until a green light comes on and it beeps.
On Mondays to Fridays, time restrictions apply in different areas as follows
*If you have a + Companion concessionary bus pass and plan to travel from the issuing authority area on a cross boundary service that Thurrock do not have reciprocal agreement with, then that pass does not entitle the Companion free travel back to the issuing authority area. Specifically, a Thurrock concessionary pass holder and companion can travel for free from Lakeside (Thurrock) to Bluewater (Kent) but on the return journey, the companion would need to pay an appropriate single fare) - This also apples to a Kent pass holder travelling with a companion to Thurrock, in this case, the companion would have to pay the appropriate single fare to return to Kent.
Thurrock, Essex County Council, Southend Unitary authority have a reciprocal agreement whereby, a + Companion concessionary pass with a companion can access free travel for BOTH pass holder and COMPANION whilst travelling in Thurrock from 9.00am to Midnight. Passes issued by other authorities are valid from 09.30am until 11pm (There are no time restrictions on use at Weekends or on Public Holidays)
Companions can travel for free on journeys that are within the combined area of Thurrock, Essex and Southend, but must pay a fare for journeys that go outside of this area.
Please refer to the terms and conditions issued with your concessionary pass for full details or contact the issuing authority.
NB: If you were a resident of a different issuing authority and permanently relocate/move to Thurrock as a resident then you are advised to apply for a Thurrock Concessionary Pass.
