Ensignbus: A Sales Journey
Ensignbus, founded in 1972, initially operated small transport contracts but quickly became a major player in the used bus sales market. The company rose to prominence in the late 1970s when it was the only bidder willing to purchase over 2,000 Daimler Fleetlines from London Transport. This bold move established Ensignbus as a leading bus dealer in the UK
To manage the influx of vehicles, Ensignbus relocated to larger premises in Purfleet, Essex. The company refurbished and modified many of these buses—converting them for sightseeing, overseas use (notably in Hong Kong), and other specialized purposes. Over 400 of these buses were sold to China Motor Bus in Hong Kong.
Ensignbus continued to grow its sales operation, becoming the largest used bus dealer in the UK by 2013. It also played a key role in the resale of iconic London Routemaster buses after their retirement from regular service.
To the present day, Ensignbus are still the largest second-hand UK bus dealer with over 300 vehicles in stock, shipping across the world with a wide variety of stock and customization options.
